Item AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE STRATEGIES OF TRANSLATION OF CHILDREN’S LITERATURE(CEP USM, 2022-04-14) Bodean-Vozian, OleseaThis work focuses on a very interesting, yet challenging area for translators – the children’s literature (ChL). Its major goal is to review the specialised literature in the field, to understand the peculiarities of such texts examine the difficulties of the process and make an inventory of the translation tools available to translators when dealing with such texts. Being aware of how vast this area is, we addressed only some aspects regarding ChL in general and translation of ChL in particular. This literature review highlights that a successful translation of children’s literature is not limited to the strategies, techniques, and procedures that might be employed, but also depends on the ability of a translator to preserve the balance between the source and target texts and to understand the readers’ expectations, in particular, when children represent the readers. Since this work is supported by a myriad of references to relevant sources published by linguists and translators, it could also serve in its turn as a useful reference point for further research avenues in linguistics, literature, translation and statisticsItem ABORDĂRI COGNITIVE ALE TEORIEI TRADUCERII ÎN CERCETĂRI MODERNE DE TRADUCTOLOGIE(CEP USM, 2022-04-14) Chiscop, LiviuŞtiință relativ recentă, dar aflată în continuă devenire, traductologia presupune nu doar interesul pentru studiul practic și teoretic al traducerii, ci și precizarea sferei noționale a unor concepte definitorii ale disciplinei, precum și revizuirea instrumentelor și metodelor de cercetare tradiționale. Item ON PROPER NAMES TRANSLATION METHODS AND TECHNIQUES(CEP USM, 2014) Corcodel, SvetlanaItem THE CHALLENGES OF GENDER TRANSLATION AS A CROSS-CULTURAL TRANSFER(Print-Caro, 2021) Roşcovan, NinaTranslation is an important instrument of communication which helps in decoding cultures, languages and concepts. It is a dynamic process, being closely linked to the progress and permanent changes within a particular society, and languages at the same time. The paper focuses on defining the concept of gender, as well as the relationship between gender, culture and translation; offer and describe the basic principles of the representation of gender in English and Romanian languages; establish a theoretical background for the translation of gender in the literary works; determine the main techniques used in the translation of gender as well as to establish challenges in translating gender.Item ROLUL ECHIVALENȚEI ÎN SUBTITRAREA ÎN LIMBA ROMÂNĂ A COMEDIILOR FRANCEZE(Print-Caro, 2021) Grădinaru, AngelaThe present article represents a study on equivalence in audiovisual translation. A translation should produce the same effect like the original. The difficulties imposed by the translation of French comedies target the transfer of sense and of expressive meaning. The subtitler aims at helping the viewer to overcome the linguistic and cultural barriers. Therefore, the highest difficulty is not represented by the words and word-combinations that do not have an appropriate equivalent in the target-language. Instead, the translation difficulty is represented by the realities they refer to. The aim of audiovisual translation is to create an equivalence between the source-text and the target-text (both have to refer to the same thing). Subtitling means faithful translation of a film dialogue in a language that should be accessible to the audience. Translation is, above all, destined for spectators. To translate means to create “an equivalent” of the original film, that is, a film with the fewest distortions of the content of the original. We refer to an equal exchange value which becomes a negotiable entity. The reader of the translation should be given the same opportunity like the reader of the original. The translator decides about the translation approach and chooses the strategies s/he will use. When translating words and humorous expressions, the translator has to have consideration for the receiver, his age, his linguistic and cultural level. The study illustrates numerous examples from various French comedies subtitled in Romanian. Item TEXTUL LUI GRIGORE VIERU ÎN OGLINDA TRANSLATOAREI OLGA IRIMCIUC(Universitatea Liberă Internaţională din Moldova, 2014) Fonari, VictoriaIt is known that the translation within the same group of languages is considered a translation of texts of average difficulty. Although Romanian and Italian languages are similar by the number of consonants, musicality and roots of words, however we can say that translation is facing certain difficulties. Each language has its specific individuality hardly to keep in a different language. These “whims” were noticed also by the Olga Irimciuc when she translated the lyrics of the poet Grigore Vieru in the published bilingual edition of his book (Romanian and Italian languages) in 2010 in Italy. Here we find the words that the author considered that it would be more appropriate to explain them in the footer of the page, there is a specific of our lexicon remained intact, for example: doina - as “elegiac folksong”, hora - as “Romanian round dance”, Mesterul Manole - a hero of a Romanian ballade becomes Mastro Manole. There are explained the proper names - geographic ones, present in the text of Vieru, or names of persons to whom the poetry is dedicated to. We can say with certainty that Olga Irimciuc could not fail to take into account the specificity of the Italian language, considering that her work of translation was checked by the Italian Publishing House Graphe.it , and the checking was made by Natale Fioretto. So, in these circumstances the translator knew exactly the specific of the Romanian language, carefully guided in perceiving of Vieru's text in Italian. Naturally, there is emphasized the specific of translating the title of the book: „ F ăJă duindu-mi iubirea” (“Promising You the Love”) is translated like “Orfeo renasce nell’amore” (“Orpheus reborns from Love”). In the Introduction (titled suggestively: Un orfico dialogo tra l’Amore e la Morta = An Orphic Dialogue between Love and Death), the translator explains why she performed this variant of book: she put an accent on the spirit of poetry. Orpheus sings the Love and Life, defying the monstrosity of death, and the lyrics of „Litanii pentru orgă ” (“Litanies for Organ”) contend the made choice.Item CONCEPTUALIZAREA NOŢIUNII DE MIŞCARE ÎN LIMBILE ENGLEZĂ ŞI ROMÂNĂ(Universitatea Liberă Internaţională din Moldova, 2013) Cincilei, Cornelia; Bodean-Vozian, OleseaOne of the basic peculiarities of languages is different means employed to conceptualize the reality, each representing so-called specific “picture of the world”. This fact could be noticed when comparing the manner of conceptualizing such a universal notion as motion. Therefore, the concept of motion could be represented in a scheme comprising the following elements: Source, Target, Path, Figure and Manner. The way these elements are encoded depends on the type of languages. Talmy’s typological approach, largely recognized by scientific community in recent times, makes difference between two types of motion encoding languages, having as basis linguistic form and semantic content. These two types of languages could be distinguished depending on which element of the scheme is encoded in the lexical meaning of the verb and which is left outside its root. Thus, some languages (including Romanian) encode the Path in the verb and leave the Manner of Motion to other elements, if necessary, while other languages focus on the Manner of Motion, lexicalizing it at the level of verb and leaving so-called satellite to point out the Path (English). Therefore, there are path-type and manner-type languages.
