Item Dinamismul limbajului medical [Articol](CEP USM, 2025) Bulai, Mădălina RoxanaTechnological and scientific advancements directly influence vocabulary, the most dynamic and flexible component of language. These changes lead to the emergence of new terms, the semantic reinterpretation of existing words, and their adaptation in both general and specialized language. This paper analyzes medical discourse by identifying the functions and meanings of terms in various types of texts, examining specific semantic processes, and assessing the expressiveness of lexical units that have undergone terminologization. It also explores the interaction between medical language and other specialized fields. In other words, the enrichment of medical vocabulary is a complex process that involves both the assimilation of new terms and their correct usage. This dynamic influences professional communication and impacts both specialists and the general public.Item Funcționarea terminologiei multilingve în cadrul Uniunii Europene [Articol](CEP USM, 2025) Cozma, ParascoviaLanguage has always been a fundamental pillar of human, international, and intercultural relations, playing a vital role in communication and cultural diversity. Multilingualism has become an increasingly valued skill in a rapidly globalizing world, where learning multiple languages is seen as essential for success. Historically, multilingualism was often perceived as a disadvantage, particularly in children, due to concerns over linguistic confusion. However, recent studies highlight its cognitive benefits, such as enhanced executive functions and resistance to cognitive decline. Given its significance, the European Union (EU) has actively promoted multilingualism, as evidenced by the 2018 public consultation on language use within EU institutions. This consultation aimed to balance linguistic diversity with administrative and budgetary constraints, examining norms, language use on websites, public consultations, and the potential for new legislation. The findings emphasized the crucial role of multilingualism in ensuring democratic participation and access to information. Respondents advocated for broader linguistic accessibility, suggesting that key documents and announcements be available in at least five widely spoken languages. Institutions such as the EU Translation Centre (CdT) and the Directorate- General for Translation (DGT) play a vital role in maintaining multilingual communication. Furthermore, style guides and linguistic regulations standardize translation practices, ensuring clarity, consistency, and accessibility. The EU’s commitment to multilingualism underscores its dedication to cultural diversity and transparency, yet practical challenges remain in implementing full linguistic equality. Addressing these challenges through improved translation policies and linguistic strategies will be key to maintaining an inclusive and effective multilingual framework within the EU.Item Neologisms in the editorial-polygraphic terminology [Articol](CEP USM, 2025) Calaraș, SvetlanaWith in the framework of editorial-polygraphic terminology, we distinguish statics and dynamics of language. The static core of the system includes all relatively stable elements (terms) and groups of elements that have not undergone structural and semantic changes for a longer or shorter period of time. Thus, the static core is the center of terminology, represented by generic names of terms. On its periphery there are obsolete or outdated terms, unstable terms, neological terms or terminological units that have appeared relatively recently, which designate, as a rule, the specific concepts that were considered in this work. In general, at the present stage, the development of editorial-polygraphic terminology is characterized by dynamism and some chaotic progress in the creation of new terms and their use. The lack of adequate systematic control over new terminology leads to individual, personal creations of terms by specialists at different levels, which introduces elements of arbitrariness into the system of ordering terminology as a whole.Item Metafora terminologică: concept și denominație [Articol](CEP USM, 2025) Mincu, Eugenia; Macovei, DorinaEugen Wüster, the „father of modern terminology,” promotes clarity in the concept → denomination relationship. To avoid ambiguity, the terminologist advocates compliance with linguistic norms and the unification of usage contexts. If a concept is assigned multiple meanings, their clarification is recommended depending on the domain. Wüster argues for standardization and biunivocity in the relationship between concept and term. The terminologist Gabriel Otman defines the conceptual relationship as a set of semantic connections between concepts. This perspective helps define, delimit, and validate concepts within a multidisciplinary logical framework. At present, conceptual relationships are classified into two models: hierarchical and non-hierarchical. This article focuses on the terminological metaphor from the perspective of the concept → denomination relationship, a perspective that facilitates the transfer of meaning across domains by adapting an existing term to designate a new specialized concept. Item CRAFTING CLARITY: UNDERSTANDING THE FORMATION OF MEDIATION TERMS(Editura USM, 2024) Cazacu, ParascoviaThe formation of mediation terms involves the strategic development of guidelines and agreements that govern the mediation process. This phase encompasses creating a standardized vocabulary that facilitates effective communication among mediators, disputing parties, and other stakeholders. The terminology used in the article defines key concepts, roles, and procedures within the mediation process that will help to build a shared framework for discussing and addressing disputes, reducing the risk of misunderstandings that could impede the mediation process. Overall, the purpose of this article is to focus on monosemy, polysemy, synonymy, and antonymy that hint at an exploration of how these concepts impact the clarity and precision of mediation terms.
