Item CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY TERMINOLOGY FROM A TRANSLATION PERSPECTIVE(CEP USM, 2022-04-14) Corcodel, Svetlana; Şaganean, GabrielaThe purpose of this work is to investigate the field of clinical psychology, which has been an important and long-standing field throughout the evolution of human knowledge, and yet still contains many mysteries and questions that remain to be answered in the future. The study provides general characteristics alongside specific peculiarities; it also comprises a linguistic and terminological analysis of the field from a translation perspective that is bound to improve not only the professional knowledge and abilities, but also bring forth valuable information about human interaction, and offer solutions to day to day problems. In order to render this type of specialized language texts, translators must attempt to identify the translation difficulties that clinical psychology terminology could pose, go beyond correspondences at the level of individual terms and be able to establish interlinguistic references to entire knowledge structures, and more important, the problems the translators of the source text face and the way they overcome them. As a result of the carried out research it allows us to realize that clinical psychology terminology is particularly dynamic and it requires responsibility from both: the psychologist and the translator, ability to concentrate as well as thoroughness and accuracy that can be used in the process of the source text translation into the target text.Item SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF LEGAL TERMINOLOGY FROM A TRANSLATION PERSPECTIVE SEMANTIC DIMENSION OF LEGAL TERMINOLOGY(CEP USM, 2017-03-18) Şaganean, GabrielaThe article focuses on the semantic relations of the legal terms pointing out the semantic difficulties encountered by the legal translators. Taking into account the complexity and the variety of terms in the legal terminology, a particular role is dedicated to semantic relations. Semantic relations in the legal language are well-recognised, because the translators dealing with legal language face a wide range of synonymous, polysemous, or homonymous words. We believe that semantic relations play an important role in translating the legal language and terminology. Synonymy and polysemy are factors of ambiguity, they exist in the legal language and their identification and analysis contributes to the description of the legal terminology. Despite the number of terms expressing one concept, it is important to preserve consistency within a document, i.e. out if all synonyms, one term should be chosen. The decisions issued by the European Court of Human Rights and by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Moldova will serve as a source for our examples.Item THE DIFFICULTIES OF AMERICAN SLANG TRANSLATION INTO ROMANIAN(CEP USM, 2016-03-12) Şaganean, Gabriela; Pascaru, DanielaThis paper deals with the problems and difficulties that arise in the process of translating the American slang into Romanian by presenting vivid examples, analyzing them and suggesting strategies of translation. One of the important aspects concerning this phenomenon is its place in modern culture, use, formation and origin. The aim of the paper is to highlight the pervasiveness of American slang and to show its originality of forms and meanings by providing some contexts, to focus on its pragmatic purposes and effects by identifying the social and stylistic boundaries of slang units; by illustrating some relevant morphological and semantic aspects of the American slang depicted from movies; by presenting different approaches while translating the informal lexicon from English into Romanian.Item EUFEMISMUL – COMPONENTĂ INDISPENSABILĂ A LIMBAJULUI POLITIC(CEP USM, 2022-05-13) Şaganean, GabrielaThe article focuses on euphemisms in the political disourse as emotionally neutral words or expressions used instead of words or expressions that seem indecent, rude, or tactless to the speaker. From the perspective of pragmatics, the process of euphemisation is a strategy of masking unwanted information that allows veiling unpleasant facts through the use of various linguistic mechanisms that give the sender the opportunity to attenuate or, conversely, to consolidate a forbidden concept or a reality in a certain context or in a certain pragmatic situation. The receiver’s primary role involves not only recovering the meaning of the message, information, but also the sender’s intention. Therefore, the reciever has a double responsibility: on the one hand he must decode the message and understand what the sender meant, but on the other hand he evaluates the alternatives of the intentionally transmitted statement, and as a result through his response building a message that generates a polite dialogue/feedback.Item STRATEGIES OF RENDERING PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS FROM ROMANIAN INTO ENGLISH(Print-Caro, 2021) Şaganean, GabrielaProblema traducerii unităților frazeologice dintr-o limbă în alta este foarte dificilă, căci acestea nu constituie un simplu inventar de cuvinte, cărora în altă limbă le corespund echivalente adecvate. Fiecare limbă se caracterzează printr-un mod al său individual de a oglindi realitatea ambiantă și posedă expresivitate internă care implică dificultăți în procesul traducerii. Cercetarea are drept scop identificarea dificultăților și strategiilor de traducere ale unităților frazeologice din opera lui Ion Creangă „Amintiri din Copilărie”, analizând nivelul de păstrare a efectului expresiv și coloristic ce îl redau unitățile frazeologice în această operă în urma traducerii dintr-o limbă în alta. Dificultatea traducerii operei lui I. Creangă rezultă nu doar din originalitatea coloritului pur naţional şi a semnificaţiilor specifice culturii româneşti, dar şi a lipsei unor analogii în limbile ţintă.Item TRANSLATION DIMENSION OF WORDPLAY FROM ENGLISH INTO ROMANIAN(CEP USM, 2022) Şaganean, GabrielaThe aim of the article is to determine the level of translatability of wordplay (pun) from English into Romanian based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, in which the writer used wordplay with communicative and social functions: teasing and provoking both characters and readers, amusing the audience by making it laugh at or with the characters. The corpus of examples proves that wordplay serves to create a communicative effect, be it humorous, attentiongetting or influential. However, it is a complex phenomenon, particularly when translating pun from one language to another. This is because it is based upon linguistic structures which differ from language to language. Therefore, it may be difficult to transfer the meaning of puns from one language to another because of the lack of equivalents in the TL. The study also demonstrates that puns are not untranslatable, and that the effect of a ST pun is possible to be transferred to the TT by providing a corresponding target text pun. When a corresponding pun into the TL is not found, it is replaced with a non-pun and when the translator had no choice and resorted to zero translation, they used editorial techniques to explain the wordplay to the curious readers and future translators.Item FORMAREA PERSONALITĂŢII PRIN PRISMA INDIVIDUALIZĂRII(CEP USM, 2010) Pascaru, Daniela; Şaganean, GabrielaAs everybody knows, individuality is one thing and personality isanother. A soul is individual, but without a personality. Personality is built after one was born. What the soul has brought along is hands and legs and face, but not personality; this is made here on earth. Some hereditary factors that contribute to personality development do so but some potential environmental influences help to shape personality. Usually when we talk about someone's personality, we mean the features that make that person different from other people, perhaps even unique. This aspect of personality is called individual differences. For some theories, it is the central issue. These theories often spend considerable attention on things like types, traits and tests that help us to categorize or compare people who are different in many ways.Item ROLUL TEMELOR PENTRU ACASĂ ÎN PROCESUL DE PREDARE-ÎNVĂŢARE(CEP USM, 2010) Pascaru, Daniela; Şaganean, GabrielaHomework seems to be an accepted part of teachers’ and students’ routines, but there is little mention of it in ELT literature. Homework reinforces and helps learners to retaininformation taught in the classroom as well as increasing their general understanding of the language. Homework developsstudy habits and independent learning. It also encourages learners to acquire resources such as dictionaries and grammar reference books. Research shows that homework also benefits factual knowledge, self-discipline, attitudes to learning and problem-solving skills. Homework offers opportunities for extensive activities in the receptive skills which there may not be time for in the classroom. It may also be an integral part of ongoing learning such as project work and the use of a graded reader. Homework provides continuity between lessons. It may be used to consolidate class work, but also for preparation for the next lesson. Homework should be manageable in terms of time as well as level of difficulty. Teachers should remember that students are often given homework in other subjects and that there is a need for coordination to avoid overload. A homework diary, kept by the learner but checked by teachers and parents is a useful tool in this respect. Motivating students to do homework is an ongoing process, and encouragement may be given by commenting and asking questions either verbally or in written form in order to demonstrate interest on the teacher’spart, particularly in the case of self-study and project work.
