    Interpreting-related technologies: a literature review
    (CEP USM, 2024) Bodean-Vozian, Olesea
The digital tools available for interpreters and their usage and advantages has become a topic of interest in the field of interpreting and research has intensified in the last couple of years. Nevertheless, the studies, theoretical approaches or categorisations of the tools, in particular, computer-assisted interpreting (CAI) tools have not been that numerous. This article aims to contribute to the investigation of CAI tools, examine the available sources which touch upon the evolution of these instruments and describe their benefits. Our goal is to conduct an analysis of different perspectives, considering the pros and cons and see which are the perspectives related to the exploration of CAI tools. Professionals need to become more aware of CAI benefits and limitations, need to have a better understanding of such mechanisms to know how to embed them into their activity. Additionally, the article explores remote and machine interpreting as well as interpreters’ concerns regarding the future of their profession in the context of the technological turn. Contrary to translators, who have embraced CAT tools, interpreters enjoy the traditional modus operandi and have difficulties in accepting the technology as part of their profession. Some professors and practitioners are encouraging interpreters to consider these tools and use them in their workflow, while others expressed their concern that the things we have today shape this domain in a detrimental manner and interpreters work in environments that fail to meet the best working practices.

EVOLUTION OF PERSPECTIVES IN CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING: TRANSITION FROM TRADITIONAL TO MODERN PARADIGMS
    (Editura USM, 2024) Sîtnic, Ina
Theoretical and practical approaches to Consecutive Interpreting have been increasingly discussed since the 1950s, when practitioners and trainers in the field of interpreting proposed suggestions for optimising the Consecutive Interpreting teaching process. Since then, several publications have appeared on topics related to praxeological approaches to interpreting mainly with reference to interpreting skills, note-taking, strategies, the process and the product of interpreting, theoretical aspects combined with practical exercises, etc. The present study is an overview of the trends in interpreter training, converging on the student-teacher interaction and students’ acquisition of interpreting competences in the academic environment. It brings into the spotlight House’s approach to ‘translation in and as interaction’, Vienne’s ‘translation in situation’, Ulrych and Nord’s situational and communicational approach, Setton’s 3D training model, Kiraly’s social constructivism.

AN APPROACH TO CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING STRATEGIES IN THE ACADEMIC LANDSCAPE
    (CEP USM, 2022-04-14) Sîtnic, Ina
The article aims at offering an outlook to strategic skills used as part of consecutive interpreting competence by second year undergraduates enrolled in the Translation and Interpreting study programme at the Department of Translation, Interpretation and Applied Linguistics. A sample of 20 students who performed the consecutive interpreting of 7 speeches yielded the information that in order to overcome specific difficulties in consecutive interpreting and to improve the quality of the target-speech students resort to strategies like literal translation, repair strategies or self-correction, repetition, speech expansion, stalling, generalisation, substitution, morphosyntactic transformation (conversion), explaining, condensation and approximation.
