Item Idiom and culture. Challenges regarding strategies of translation(CEP USM, 2024) Corcodel, SvetlanaThe world of English idiomatic expressions is huge and diverse, and every aspect of their study certainly deserves attention. In order to understand the depth of this process, it has been necessary to find out what an ‘idiom’ is from both: linguistic and cultural perspectives. The study stresses the importance of idiomatic translation that is probably one of the most challenging types of translation because there are no expressions for which dictionaries have exact equivalents. The most important thing to keep in mind is the cultural difference the translator encounters during the translation process as well as understanding all the peculiarities, similarities and differences of the two languages in order to choose the appropriate translation strategies and achieve the same meaning as in the source text. Besides, the translator requires creativity, skills, willingness, and perseverance to search for the best equivalent.Item CHALLENGES IN TRANSLATING LEGAL TERMINOLOGY(2023) Corcodel, SvetlanaThis research work is a proof of an attempt to find peculiar aspects of legal terminology as a part of the language vocabulary. It helped us understand better the process of terms evolution and their development within the framework of one specialized language. It is a kind of analysis and foreseeing of the legal terms creation, assimilation and their implementation into the actual specialized vocabulary. This research is a good source of information for terminologists helping them to choose what term should be used, what information and meaning it designates and when it should be used. This field needs a permanent study, because this specialized field is always in evolution that depends on the country development and progress.Item AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH TO FOOD PRODUCTS ADVERTISING IN ENGLISH AND ROMANIAN LANGUAGES(CEP USM, 2023) Corcodel, SvetlanaThe purpose in writing this paper is to have a close reading of advertisements in order to single out peculiarities of the language of advertising and translation difficulties of print magazine advertisements. The study provides general characteristics alongside specific peculiarities; it also comprises a linguistic and terminological analysis of the field from a translation perspective that is bound to improve not only the professional knowledge and abilities, but also bring forth valuable information about human interaction, and offer solutions to day to day problems. In order to render this type of specialized language texts, translators must attempt to identify the translation difficulties that clinical psychology terminology could pose, go beyond correspondences at the level of individual terms and be able to establish interlinguistic references to entire knowledge structures, and more important, the problems the translators of the source text face and the way they overcome them.
