Abstract

This article examines Latin maxims and expressions in the context of the transition from high culture to popular culture. Because Latin aphorisms have a universal, general and comprehensive character, they have been taken up in literature, art and heraldry. Lately they have penetrated the social media discourse, body art and other areas specific to a culture of entertainment and relaxation. On the model of the Latin maxim „Omnia vincit amro et nos cedamus amori”, that belongs to the poet Verrgilius, are analyzed the main directions that Latin aphorisms follow to slow down in today’s culture.
