Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify and examine the translation strategies of acronyms and initialisms, adopted and used by the European Union, in order to ensure international communication. These lexical structures fulfill time necessities but they require a regular update. For this reason and for the purpose of getting maximum objectivity, two translation directions, English – Romanian and English – Italian, have been researched based on 11 specialized fields of the EU.
