Abstract
Nowadays technology and globalization have made the world much smaller and faster,
imposing the need to measure ourselves against multiple diversities (relational methods,
lifestyles and new values), of which linguistic and cultural diversity is the most tangible
sign. In order to give globalization an ethical orientation, education still has to build the
alternative: it is necessary to acquire skills of a truly intercultural nature which are
indispensable for managing situations. In this sense, what globalization has led us to
discover is that there are no "pure" and closed cultures, but hybrid cultures. In the midst
of this dynamic society, intercultural pedagogy is configured as the main discipline to
face the multiple challenges of intercultural integration, enrichment and individual and
collective growth. The definition of intercultural competence appears complex and not
univocally defined by scientists. In the article we also proposed the analysis of different
concepts such as culture/civilization, interculturality, intercultural education,
interculturalism, multiculturalism, otherness, etc. to be able to implement a group project
based on reading an authentic novel in Italian.
