Abstract

The name of Ariadna Șalari is little known to the current reader, and her work is rarely researched by literary criticism either because of its remaining in the form of Russian writing, or because of its ideological charge. In this article we attempt the epic recovery of the autobiographical novel “Labirintul” by Ariadna Șalari, written between 1977 and 1985 and published, in Russian letters, in Chișinău, in 1990, a novel that reconfigures the author’s literary destiny. The biographical element is a pretext, but also a defining argument in the composition of the novel, which is intended to be an x-ray of Romanian society on both banks of the Prut river: one under Bolshevik occupation and the other on the side of the Allies. The novel “Labirintul” could count enormously in a possible attempt to reconsider Romanian Bessarabian literature by relating it to the historical context in which it was written.
