Abstract

Digitization is changing the world of work, improving productivity and increasing flexibility, but at the same time it carries some risks for employment and labor conditions. Algorithm-based technologies, including automated monitoring and decision-making systems, have enabled the emergence and development of digital labor platforms. Working on platforms can offer the possibility to access the labor market more easily, to obtain additional income through a secondary activity or to benefit from a certain flexibility in organizing the working time. At the same time, platform work poses challenges as it can blur the line between employment and self-employment, as well as the responsibilities of employers and workers. Misclassification of occupational status has consequences for affected people, as it is likely to restrict access to existing employment and social rights.
