Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between economic well-being and subjective life satisfaction across countries worldwide. Particular attention is paid to the role of GDP per capita as a factor influencing happiness levels. For this purpose, data from the World Happiness Report and GDP per capita (adjusted for purchasing power parity) for the year 2024 were used, covering 147 countries around the world. Methods of correlation analysis were applied, and both Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated. The results revealed a moderate positive correlation according to Pearson (r = 0.6942) and a stronger one according to Spearman (r = 0.821), confirming the substantial impact of GDP per capita on happiness levels. At the same time, outlier countries were identified, where happiness levels are notably higher or lower than expected. The study also noted a decline in the sensitivity of happiness to income growth once a certain GDP per capita threshold is reached, supporting the Easterlin paradox.
