Abstract
The objective of this paper is to examine international methodological approaches for evaluating economic well-being and to assess their relevance for the Republic of Moldova. The study focuses on multidimensional frameworks, such as the Better Life Index and the Social Progress Index, and analyzes the challenges of adapting these models to a national context shaped by economic transition and high levels of migration. The research methodology involves a comparative analysis of composite well-being indicators and a review of available national data sources. Based on this analysis, the paper proposes an adapted framework structured around five key dimensions: income, employment, housing conditions, access to public services, and subjective well-being. The main findings highlight discrepancies between international standards and national statistical capacities but also demonstrate the feasibility of developing a credible and context-sensitive well-being index. The study concludes that integrating well-being metrics into policymaking processes can enhance evidence-based governance and improve the alignment of public policies with citizens’ real needs.
