Abstract

The article discusses the complex process of aligning Moldova's justice system with European Union standards as part of the country's efforts to gain EU membership. The article highlights the importance of judicial reforms, particularly in ensuring judicial independence, fighting corruption, and adhering to the rule of law. Key reforms include changes to the judiciary's appointment processes, external evaluations (pre-vetting and vetting), and structural reforms aimed at increasing transparency and efficiency. The evaluation mechanisms introduced, such as the pre-vetting process, have roots in other European countries but represent new approaches in Moldova. The challenges and progress made are reviewed against the backdrop of Moldova’s broader European integration ambitions.
