Abstract

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia begins in the neonatal period and is responsible for recurrent respiratory morbidity, chronic bronchopulmonary diseases of the child. The purpose of the research - evaluation of biochemical markers of oxidative stress in children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). A cohort study was conducted that included 41 children with a history of preterm birth and postnatal oxygen therapy in respiratory distress who achieved BPD. The comparative study with preterm infants who did not perform BPD (40 infants) identified a 4.86-fold (p<0.001) increase in total pro-oxidant activity and a significant 62% (p<0.001) increase in malondialdehyde content in children. With BPD, but also a 12% (p<0.001) reduction in nitric oxide. Children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia show disorders of the redox status by triggering oxidative/nitrosative stress, which are included in the pathogenic mechanisms of chronic bronchopulmonary processes in children born prematurely.
