    The aim of this article is to determine the main characteristics related to assessment and its particularities, such as classifications, functions and criteria. In order to reveal the need and importance of the assessment system in German language class, it is considered essential to achieve a number of objectives, such as: defining the assessment and its meaning; explaining the importance of pupils assessment; highlighting the key functions in the assessment process; analysing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in the German class as part of assessment system; using the teaching strategies during the assessment in the German class; recognizing the role of assessment in teaching German as a foreign language.
