    The development of the informational society give rise to new opportunities for learning and they challenge established views and practices regarding how teaching and learning should be organized and carried out. At the same time, globalization and the emergence of new players in the world economy have intensified competition, many countries turning production towards high value-added and knowledge-intensive products and services which request high-level skills labor force. Lifelong learning, embracing all forms of educational and learning experiences, helps individuals to engage in purposeful interactions with their environment through the development of their knowledge, skills and critical thinking abilities. It affirms that learning, as a continuous process in life, plays an essential role in enabling individuals to adapt to, and deal with, new challenges and changes in their lives and surrounding environment.

    THE PHENOMENON OF GLOBALIZATION IN THE CONTEMPORARY CZECH LITERATURE

    The Canadian economist Marshall McLuhan is the forerunner in defining the phenomenon of globalization. In the period of migration and as well as a consequence of the refuge from communist regimen, the contemporary Czech literature accepts not only the writers that live within the borders of their country, but also writers from other countries that are writing their works in Czech language. I have investigated the texts of the following Czech writers: Miloš Urban, Jáchym Topol, Michal Ajvaz, Patrik Ouředník and Nataša Reimanová. Historically Prague was the commercial city that knew how to accept different views categorized as primordial in different periods. Its tolerance allowed to preserve the architectural historical sequences that register a continuity of the memory.

    THE INFLUENCE OF ENGLISH ON THE TERMINOLOGY IN THE DOMAIN OF BANKING AND FINANCE: ROMANIAN, RUSSIAN AND GERMAN

    This paper aims at examining the influence of English as a lingua franca on the terminology in the domain of banking and finance, which becomes more and more globalised with the increased prevalence of transnational financial operations. The analysis of examples from Romanian, Russian and German is intended to illustrate how English terminology is introduced in different languages, mainly through borrowing and loan translation or calque, and also adapted to the grammatical and structural peculiarities of the target language.

    EMILIAN GALAICU-PĂUN – POET, WRITER, ESSAYIST, AND ROMANIAN LANGUAGE TRANSLATOR

    Our presentation deals with the analysis of Emilian Galaicu-Păun’s approach to the translation of two novels written by Michel Pastoureau “Blue: The History of a Colour”, translated in 2006 and “Black: The History of a Colour”, translated in 2012, both versions published by the “Cartier” Publishing House, where the author of the translations has been editor-in-chief for many years. Our aim is to compare the two translations of the novels that revolve round one similar nucleus: a symbolic experience of the history of Europe performed by the same author, in order to observe how Galaicu-Păun, the translator, perceives the original works from a temporal and spatial distance, as well as his inspiration that helps, Galaicu-Păun, the poet and writer, interpret them for the Romanian reader.

    A DIACHRONIC APPROACH OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION

    It is commonplace now to speak of “one world” and to refer broadly to the interdependence of nations and to the lack of self-sufficiency of even the world’s largest and richest countries. The growth in interest in studies of intercultural communication in recent years has led, on the one hand, to an increasing number of projects focusing on the examination on communication between speakers from different cultural backgrounds in various contexts and across different channels. On the other hand, a number of scholars have, at the theoretical level, reexamined the very basic notions of “language”, “culture”, and “inter-culture”, the main concept in studies of intercultural communication, from various perspectives. The contribution of this article represents this spectrum, beginning with theoretical background, moving on to exploring the interplay between intercultural communication and new technologies, and finally examining intercultural communication across different contexts.
