    HISTORICAL APPROACH TO METAPHOR

    Lucrarea dată reprezintă o abordare teoretică a studierii unor particularități ale figurilor de stil (metaforei) la niveluri lingvistic, literar, sociocultural şi estetic. Rolul limbajului literar în calitate de limbaj specializat cu conţinut propriu şi o serie de caracteristici specifice variază în dependenţă de sistemul lingvistic. Totuşi, indiferent de limbă, o mare parte din trăsăturile sale specifice este explicată prin influenţa factorilor istorici, culturali, sociali şi politici asupra limbajului literar al comunităţii lingvistice.

    Vor fi abordate subiecte importante, precum clasificarea şi funcţiile metaforei. De asemenea, vor fi prezentate trei tehnici de traducere a metaforelor conform lingviștilor Peter Newmark şi Nataliya Dobrynska. Vor fi prezentate câteva exemple ce conţin metafore din romanul „White Fang” de Jack London şi din poemul „Romeo and Juliet” de William Shakespeare. “

    INTERPRETAREA METAFORELOR EXTINSE

    This article studies the issue of decoding extended metaphors. The research is performed based on the novel The Collector by John Fowles, which contains a globally extended metaphor: from the title until the end. The emphasis is put on coherence as the ability of the reader to find correspondences between the concepts of the metaphor. This research reveals the problems that appear while decoding local metaphors, how they influence decoding the global one and how the global metaphorical nodes crystallise in the novel.
