It is undoubtedly attributed three components: knowledge, skills and attitudes; the attitudes are attributed the leading role of directing, bringing arguments and achieving a result; knowledge and abilities complete the competence. The need to develop students’ communicative competence increases with the ideas found in pedagogical researches, which state that the human personality can be professionally formed only in the process of communication. The communication competence includes people’s abilities of communication acquired during their lives and supposes abilities to communicate, transmit, exchange opinions in different circumstances in the process of interaction with other people, applying the system of language and speech standards. A foreign language is an effective tool to enter a new level of culture, a tool of spiritual and intellectual maturity. Higher education represents an important means to accede to international sources of information and documentation in the professional field, promoting individual, professional and general human values. The study of a foreign language is not any more an objective of general culture; it is increasingly becoming a professional training objective. The need to develop students' communicative competence increases with the ideas found in pedagogical researches which show that the human personality can be professionally formed only in the process of communication. It is almost impossible to develop students’ professional communicative competence outside the foreign languages classes. The author explores a less trodden path for improving linguistic education by teaching students a foreign language: explaining the meanings given to the terms competence and communicative competence, which give theoretical solutions for achieving the formulated goal.
