METAFORA ŞI COMPARAŢIA – MECANISME DIFERITE DE INTERPRETARE

Metaphor and simile do not only exhibit distinctions at the surface level, but also at the deep level of meaning. Both could be interpreted using the mechanism of CATEGORISATION or COMPARISON, depending on certain factors like conventionality, aptitude, form. Applying the new developments in the study of metaphor and simile to the analysis of the narrative text allows us to make additional comments referring to a deeper conceptualization level of a certain situation
INTERPRETAREA METAFORELOR EXTINSE

This article studies the issue of decoding extended metaphors. The research is performed based on the novel The Collector by John Fowles, which contains a globally extended metaphor: from the title until the end. The emphasis is put on coherence as the ability of the reader to find correspondences between the concepts of the metaphor. This research reveals the problems that appear while decoding local metaphors, how they influence decoding the global one and how the global metaphorical nodes crystallise in the novel.
