dc.description.abstract | The article proposes an analysis of the translation challenges faced by the translator of Christian-Orthodox theological texts from French into Romanian concerning the translation of specialised theological terms. Our analysis will focus on the difficulties of translating the French noun “glorification” into Romanian. It will be based on a corpus of Romanian versions of texts of this type written in French by renowned Orthodox theologians. Defined as “the action of glorifying (someone, something); the result of this action” (TLFi), this noun is borrowed from Christian Latin and belongs to the lexical family of the noun “gloire”. As the correct canonical equivalent of the latter in Romanian is the noun “slavă”, the noun “glorification” is generally translated as “slăvire”. Nevertheless, in certain discursive contexts, it should be translated as “preaslăvire” or “proslăvire”. | en |
