Abstract
Regional development policy in the Republic of Moldova is the national prerogative to which
central and local public administration authorities bring their coordinated contribution within a
participatory process aimed at implementing regional projects and programs. Their purpose is aimed at
creating the necessary conditions to ensure income, employment and living conditions of citizens,
attracting investments and improving regional infrastructure.
The current development trends of the Republic of Moldova continue to be dominated by the
advancement of the monopolistic model of development, characterized by disproportionate concentration
of resources and welfare in Chisinau. Chisinau, against the background of increasing marginalization of
peripheral regions. Currently, the Gross Regional Product per inhabitant in Chisinau is almost 5 times
larger than in the regions, which negatively affects the economic competitiveness of the Republic of
Moldova and average indicators of quality of life of citizens, creating the necessary premises for the
perpetuation of external and internal migration.
