Each year millions of people over the world in the late stages of disease need palliative care aimed at providing qualified medical and social assistance to the dying patients, and support to their families and friends. More than 50 million people die each year in the world. It is estimated that 60 percent of them would have benefited from palliative care. However, most of them do not have access to these services. Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, the risk of increased incidence of cancer, on the one hand, and the trend of population ageing on the other hand, increase the role of palliative care and hospice work sites. The measures undertaken by the Public Health tend to develop the level of palliative care in accordance with the standards imposed by the World Health Organization.en
