Abstract

The development of Moldovan standards for sustainable tourism reflects a timely and innovative response to the increasing global demand for sustainable practices in the tourism industry. This initiative aligns with international frameworks, such as the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria, while addressing the unique needs of Moldova’s tourism sector. The process involves a structured multi-phase approach, including the identification of new standardization themes, stakeholder consultations, and collaboration with Technical Committee 74 (CT 74). By integrating local specificity with international best practices, the effort ensures that Moldovan standards meet global sustainability benchmarks while remaining relevant to local challenges and opportunities. This effort is particularly relevant in the context of rising environmental challenges and the growing demand for responsible tourism. It positions Moldova as a proactive contributor to sustainable development, offering a replicable model for other countries.
