STATUTUL FONETICO-FONOLOGIC ŞI VALORILE ORTOGRAFICE ALE DIFTONGULUI CENTRAL /' Ɔ ə / DIN LIMBA ENGLEZĂ

Abstract

The present article deals with of one of the most interesting and disputable subject of English Phonetic, teaching and learning English central diphthongs. The central diphthong [ Ə] should be considered more particularly. This compound sound has specific features, which determines its special status within the phonetic and phonological system of the English language. An analysis of didactical materials shows that difficulties in pronunciation of the given sound by the native speakers of Roumanian, Russian, etc. reside in the absence of such sound in these langu ages. Namely that is why the present theme is important theoretically and practically. The author suggests what strategies should be used in order to facilitate the quality of teaching and learning the English central diphthong [ Ə].
