Abstract

The research aims to analyze the impact of digital technologies on the sustainable development of rural tourism, with a focus on smart information and promotion solutions such as interactive mobile applications. The main objective is to evaluate how digitalization contributes to the valorization of ecotourism trails and the involvement of local communities in the tourism process. The methodology includes documentary analysis, a case study of the Village Travel Bot application, and the interpretation of data regarding its usage in the first months after launch. The results indicate that Village Travel Bot, launched in the Republic of Moldova in 2024, facilitates the exploration of over 57 rural attractions by offering tourists personalized recommendations, interactive cultural content, and useful logistical information. The application was awarded “Tourism Innovation of the Year” and contributed to increasing the visibility of Moldovan villages, stimulating the local economy, and promoting authentic heritage. The study demonstrates the potential of digital solutions to support sustainable rural tourism, providing a replicable model for other regions with ecotourism potential.
