Abstract
In this paper we conducted a research based on the phraseologi cal units that contain a lexeme which denotes a human internal or gan such as “the spleen”, “the stomach”, “the chicken small stomach”, “the liver”, “the blood” and “the bones” in English, Romanian and Russian. The examples have been collected from the dictionaries of idioms in the threelanguages and classified according to the lexeme that names a certain internal bodily organ, its “image” and the emotive concept it denotes. The research methodology chosen for studying the somatic phraseological units is that of the conceptual metaphor classification introduced by the famous professor G. Lakoff. After having conducted the study we identified that the phraseological units that contain a lexical somatic component (one internal human organ) render concepts of mostly negative emotive categories such as: “anger”, “annoyance”,“anxiety”, “cruelty”, “fear”, “fury”, “hate”, “irritation”, “love” and “nervousness”. At the same time we have highlighted some cultural specific concepts such as “ciudă” (“anger and envy”) typical for the Romanian and the Russian cultures, an equivalent of which cannot be found in the English language.
