The European Convention on Human Rights is intented to guarantee not rights that are theoretical or illusory but rights that are practical and effective, as per the settled case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. Therefore, it falls on each Member State to ensure the effective protection of the fundamental rights. In this regard, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova has guided itself by the case-law of the Strasbourg Court on a regular basis, and continues to do so, making use of practically the same interpretation modalities so as to comply with the European standards set by the Convention. In this article, the concept of effectivness will be discussed by reference to the constitutional case-law of Moldova.en
