Abstract

The citizenship of the Republic of Moldova expresses the affiliation of a person to the Moldovan state and it is not only a simple relationship of „affiliation”. Citizenship gives the person an identity and is a legal situation resulting from the stable legal relations between the natural person and the state, the situation characterized by the fullness of mutual rights and obligations provided by the Constitution and other laws. Citizenship is exclusively a matter of state. This is particularly clear from the constitutional and legal provisions, according to which the establishment of citizens’ rights, freedoms and duties, the ways of acquiring and losing citizenship are exclusive attributes of the state.
