Abstract
The following article characterizes the formation of Moldovan communities in the European
Union. The qualitative and quantitative parameters of this process are revealed based on sociological
research.
People from all regions of the Republic of Moldova are present in Moldovan communities in the
EU. However, most Moldovan labor migrants are originally from rural areas and small towns. Among
the labor migrants there are members of all layers of Moldovan society. The majority of Moldovan labor
migrants are working abroad in positions below the level of their professional qualifications and studies.
Women are not just members of a labor migrant’s family, they are independent and mass actors of
Moldovan labor migration in the EU. Moldovan women work in many fields in destination countries
