Abstract

The process by which international students acquire medical terminology is a complex educational endeavour that goes beyond the mere memorization of technical terms. In the context of teaching Romanian as a foreign language (RLS), this development involves a gradual and structured progression, aimed at building communicative competence that enables full integration into the Romanian academic and clinical environment. Training naturally begins with the stage of acquiring basic terminology. At this initial level, the focus is on anatomical and physiological vocabulary, as well as the names of the main pathologies. However, terminological knowledge alone is not sufficient for a future clinician. As students progress, the teaching process shifts toward integrating complex grammatical structures into specialized discourse. This transition is essential to ensure the precision and rigor required in professional interactions.
