Abstract
Starting from the objectives of the debate as a journalistic genre, this paper aims to analyze the ethical and deontological deviations in televised political arenas during the electoral campaign. The content analysis shows how the debate participants—both the journalistmoderator and the presidential candidate in the 2024 and 2025 elections—direct electoral debate communication toward entertainment by staging themes without real arguments, with a low degree of information through frequent omissions, spectacular content, and language lacking professional deontology (defamation, accusations, or personal attacks). These practices depart from the format of a genuine debate and move closer to that of a talk show. Televised public communication absorbs stakes aimed at spectacle and audience ratings, to the detriment of truth and the proper informing of the public.
