Abstract
The first names worn by the ladies and young ladies of the Romanian countries in the 16th - 18th centuries reveal a rich, descending, priority anthroponymic system from the Greco-Slavonic cult tradition of assigning baptismal names and supplemented with significant elements - either lexical or of structure - of secular or popular origin, created on own land or borrowed from neighboring ethnic groups. The dynamics of the use of these anthroponyms are varied: the 16th century is characterized by a greater diversity of surnames used by the ruling houses of Moldova and Wallachia, in the 17th century a stabilization of preferences for Christian baptismal names is observed and those derived from Romanian lexical material, and sec. the 18th is shown to be mainly tributary to Greek borrowings, which can be explained by the establishment on the thrones of the Romanian countries of lords and, respectively, ladies from Fanar.
