Abstract
The constitutions of contemporary states declare the people as the holders of national sovereignty. Citizens, exercising sovereignty through the right to vote, act not in their own name, as holders of a share of sovereignty, but in the name of the people they represent at that moment. European integration involves the process of collaboration and coordination between the member states of the European Union to build a common economic, political and social space. The paradigm of the right to vote in this context refers to the way in which citizens of the member states exercise their right to vote and how European integration influences and is influenced by this right. The exercise of the right to vote in the European space, both in the European Parliament and in local elections, is carried out by citizens who hold the citizenship of one of the member states of the European Union.
