Abstract
This study investigates gender differences in the perception of predatory publishing among researchers in the Republic of Moldova. The research employed a quantitative, descriptive, and exploratory design, based on an online survey. A total of 539 valid responses were collected (333 women, 206 men), reflecting a broad representation of the academic community. The findings reveal that while both genders are aware of the phenomenon, women reported higher levels of awareness and greater concern about its negative impact. Men, although less informed through institutional sources, expressed greater confidence in their knowledge. Key reasons for engaging in predatory publishing include career advancement pressure, lack of scientific literacy, and the desire for rapid publication. These motives showed limited gender variation. The results highlight a shared recognition of the threat predatory publishing poses to academic integrity and reputation. The study underscores the need for targeted institutional and educational measures, tailored to local academic culture and gender-related nuances, to mitigate the spread of predatory practices.
