The current context of Romance languages, and specifically of the French language, is marked by a creative tension between the preservation of academic norms and the pressure of globalization. This paper explores the evolution of the French language through the lens of functional and critical translation studies, analyzing how the "vulnerability" of the source text and the "identity" of the translation are redefined in the era of algorithms. Current divergences have surpassed the difficulties once posed by translation units—even those labeled as realia or culturemes; the new paradigm now focuses on the integration of Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and AI, the ethics of the translator as a post-editor, and intellectual property. An emerging constraint concerns the production of "easy-to- read" texts at the expense of the responsibility not to "betray" the author's style. The challenge also derives from the ability to integrate classical theoretical heritage into modern translation pedagogy, where post-editing transforms the classroom into a laboratory for critical analysis. Gamification and hybrid learning are becoming methods to teach the nuances of the French language to a digital generation and to train a different kind of translator. Although technology accelerates the communication process, human expertise (both linguistic and translational) remains the only one capable of managing the cultural and emotional subtleties of languages in a translation relationship. We conclude that the future of translation and translation studies lies in redefining the translator as a post-editor and cultural mediator equipped with advanced technological tools, capable of maintaining the vitality of the interlinguistic and intercultural space.en
