Abstract

Denationalization and assimilation processes of the population in Transnistria during Tsarist and Soviet domination recorded higher rates than in Bessarabia. Geopolitical and Geostrategic interests of imperial political forces were the primary causes of Transnistrian conflict. This conflict differs radically from other conflicts in the former Soviet Union (Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia).
