Abstract
Chișinau, throughout its existence, has been immortalized in the paintings of artists; their contribution to the rediscovery of the city’s images from different periods is indisputable. A special concern in the subject approached by the plastic artists are the architectural monuments designed by the great architect Alexandru Bernardazzi, such as the City Hall, the Church “Saint Theodora of Sihla”, the Church Greek “Saint Pantelimon”, the Gymnasium for girls, the Railway Station, the Water Tower, the Râșcanu-Derjinski House, the cast iron fence from Ștefan cel Mare Park, etc. Visual artists – Eugenia Gamburd, Grigore Fiurer, Alexei Vasiliev, Ana Baranovici, Gheorghe Munteanu, Arcadie Antoseac, Valentina Brâncoveanu, and others – have represented the old Chișinau with vineyards and orchards, with lots of greenery and chaotically located buildings, a city with an urban plan, with buildings destroyed after the bombing, or a city with intense life. Thus, the authors leave the imprint of the time, the architecture undergoing adjustments to the rigors of the time.
