Abstract

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) tools are vital in ensuring sustainable development within the tourism sector, especially in regions where tourism plays a critical role in economic and cultural preservation. This paper explores the efficiency of various M&E tools implemented in Southern Europe and Moldova, examining their role in addressing challenges such as environmental sustainability, cultural preservation, and community engagement. Results indicate that tools leveraging advanced technologies, such as Smart Tourism Analytics and the European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS), are the most effective. However, moderate performance in community-based and sector-specific monitoring highlights the need for enhanced integration and capacity building. These insights emphasize the importance of adopting comprehensive, technology-driven M&E frameworks to foster sustainable tourism practices globally.
