Abstract

The Emerald Network presents a network of protected areas focused on ensuring the long-term survival of species and natural habitats, established through the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern Convention, 1979). The Emerald Network in Moldova currently includes 61 adopted sites, means it covers 8.1% of the country’s territory (preserving 167 species of animals and plants and 32 habitats of European importance). The paper analyzed data from the most recent scientific studies on biodiversity in this Emerald site, and synthesized data collected in various own field studies, to compile the full list of species listed in various annexes of the Bern Convention (1979). According to Resolution No. 6, to the Bern Convention, 1979 (which lists species requiring specific habitat conservation measures), we indicate that the Emerald site “Lower Prut Lakes” presents favorable habitat for the development of a plant species - Crambe tataria and 76 fauna species. These data can serve as a basic information source in the evaluations of biogeographic seminars at regional/national level, framed in the assessments regarding the species sufficiency index and for the biodiversity conservation’s appropriate measures.
