Abstract

Job sharing represents a distinctly atypical form of employment that ensures a high degree of flexibility by allowing two individuals to collaboratively perform the duties of a single job position, typically accumulating the equivalent of one full-time role. This new contractual model is gaining increasing popularity in the private sector, although job sharing has long existed in certain branches of the economy, where it has been consistently applied over the years.A particularly relevant example—also applicable to the realities of the labour market in the Republic of Moldova—includes medical doctors, nurses, and auxiliary healthcare staff, firefighters, and similar professions. In such cases, two or more individuals assume the same functional responsibilities, taking over the position from one another at the end of each shift, thereby ensuring uninterrupted operational continuity for the employer. At present, however, this model of performing work duties is applied in the Republic of Moldova almost exclusively in the context of socially necessary activities.
