Abstract

We investigated the quality indices of the green mass and hay from local ecotypes of bird’s-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) and alsike clover (Trifolium hybridum), which grown in monoculture in an experimental field of the National Botanical Garden (Institute) MSU, Chişinău, Republic of Moldova. It was determined that the biochemical composition and nutritive value of the dry matter from bird’s-foot trefoil and alsike clover whole plants was: 16.40-16.54% crude protein, 3.17-3.90% crude fats, 22.44-34.97% crude cellulose, 34.71-49.29% nitrogen free extract, 8.56-10.04% ash, 1.12-1.14% calcium, 0.26-0.27% phosphorus, 4.16-5.54% sugars, 1.53-1.95% starch, 11.72-57.51 mg/kg cartene with 8.22- 9.96 MJ/kg ME and 4.48-5.76 MJ/kg NEl. The biochemical composition and nutritive value of hay dry matter from studied species was: 18.55- 19.69% crude protein, 1.59-2.68% crude fats, 26.90-31.40% crude cellulose, 9.42-10.27% nitrogen free extract, 9.42-10.27 % ash, 1.11-1.26% calcium, 0.28-0.29% phosphorus, 4.23-4.59% sugars, 1.40-1.56% starch, 23.05-68.83 mg/kg cartene with 8.25-8.58 MJ/kg ME and 4.59-4.84 MJ/kg NEl. The studied alsike clover ecotipe have optimal quality as fodder for farm animals.
