Abstract

The present study highlights the importance of addressing legislative gaps in the context of ‘Extradition,’ which refers to the process of transferring an accused or convicted individual from one member state of the European Union (EU) to another for the purpose of trial or serving a sentence. This represents a fundamental aspect of judicial cooperation within the EU. In a context characterized by globalization and increased cross-border mobility, extradition holds particular significance in ensuring justice and combating serious crimes. However, the extradition process is a complex and sensitive field that requires a careful and adaptable approach to social and legal developments. The aim of this paper is to investigate how scientific research and innovation can contribute to improving the extradition process within the European Union. Despite the existence of a detailed legal framework for extradition, significant challenges remain concerning the protection of human rights, the efficiency of procedures, and the uniform application of extradition legislation across the EU. This paper focuses on identifying ways in which research and innovation can help overcome these challenges and promote greater equity in the extradition process.
