Sinteza de noi complecşi de Zinc și Cupru derivați din liganzi bistriazolici
(CEP USM, 2024) Al-Matarneh, Maria-Cristina; Şova, Sergiu; Nicolescu, Alina Florica; Danac, Ramona

A series of Cu(II), Co(II), Pd(II), Pt(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Fe(III) complexes were designed and synthesized using Schiff base 1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-4-(N-3-formyl-6-methylchromone)-3-pyrazolin-5-one (HL). The new metal complexes were investigated using various physicochemical techniques including elemental and thermal analyses, molar electric conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, as well as spectroscopic methods. Also, the crystal structures of ligand HL and the Pd(II) complex were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. For all compounds, the antimicrobial activity was studied against a series of standard strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Candida albicans, Candida krusei and Cryptococcus neoformans. The in vitro antiproliferative activity of the ligand and complexes was evaluated against ten cancer cell lines: MSC, A375, B16 4A5, HT-29, MCF-7, HEp-2, BxPC-3, RD, MDCK and L20B. At 10 μM concentration a significant cytotoxic effect of the Co(II), Pd(II) and Cd(II) complexes was observed against B16 4A5 murine melanoma cells. The Zn(II) complex is active against HEp-2, RD and MDCK cancer cell lines, where IC50 values vary between 1.0 and 77.6 and for BxPC-3 the activity index versus doxorubicin is 3.7 times higher.

SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF NOVEL CU (II), CO (III), FE (III) AND CR (III) COMPLEXES WITH 2‐ HYDROXYBENZALDEHYDE‐4‐ALLYL‐S‐METHYLISOTHIOSEMICARBAZONE: ANTIMICROBIAL, ANTIOXIDANT AND IN VITRO ANTIPROLIFERATIVE ACTIVITY
(2018) Pahonțu, Elena; Usataia, Irina; Graur, Vasilii; Ciumacov, Iurie; Petrenko, Peter; Gudumac, Valentin; Gulea, Aurelian
2-Hydroxybenzaldehyde-4-allyl-S-methylisothiosemicarbazone and Cu (II), Co (III), Fe (III) and Cr (III) complexes were synthesized and characterized. The new obtained compounds were investigated by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, molar electric conductivity, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV–Vis spectroscopy. In addition, the structure of the ligand and six complexes has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Cu atom in complex 3 is penta-coordinated in a distorted square–pyramidal coordination geometry, while the metals in complexes 5–9 are in a distorted octahedral environment. For all compounds the antimicrobial activity was studied on a series of standard strains, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Salmonella abony and Candida albicans. The in vitro antiproliferative activity of the ligand and complexes was screened on human leukemia HL-60 cells, human cervical epithelial HeLa cells, human epithelial pancreatic adenocarcinoma BxPC-3 cells, human muscle rhabdomyosarcoma spindle and large multinucleated RD cells. The primary screening on a wider series of cancer cells showed that copper coordination compound 2 manifests high activity towards HeLa, BxPC-3 and RD cancer cells, which is three–six times higher than the activity of doxorubicin. The selectivity index that is the ratio between the IC50 value for the normal MDCK cells and IC50 values for the cancer cells varies in the range 2.44–21.17. This index is 5.5–11 times higher for the copper coordination compound 2 than for the doxorubicin. Cr (III), Fe (III) and Co (III) coordination compounds 6–9 manifest high antioxidant activity towards ABTS•+ that exceeds 47–67 times the activity of Trolox.

IN VITRO ANTILEUKEMIA, ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITIES OF SOME 3D METAL COMPLEXES: CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURE – ACTIVITY RELATIONSHIPS
(Taylor & Francis Open, 2008) Gulea, Aurelian; Poirier, Donald; Roy, Jenny; Stavila, Vitalie; Bulimestru, Ion; Tapcov, Victor; Birca, Maria; Popovschi, Lilia
The present paper describes the synthesis, characterization and in vitro biological evaluation screening of different classes (ammoniacates, dioximates, carboxylates, semi- and thiosemicarbazidates) of Co(II), Co(III), Cu(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Zn(II) and Fe(III) complexes. Schiff bases were obtained from the reaction of some salicyl aldehydes with, respectively, furoylhydrazine, benzoylhydrazine, semicarbazide, thiosemicarbazide and S-methylthiosemicarbazide to give tridentate ligands containing ONO, ONS or ONN as donor atoms. The synthetic metal complexes are of various geometrical and electronic structures, thermodynamic and thermal stabilities, and magnetic and conductance properties. All complexes, except those of Cu, are octahedral. Some Cu, Co and Mn compounds have a dimeric or a polymeric structure. The composition and structure of complexes were analysed by elemental analysis, IR and 1 H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies, and magnetochemical, thermoanalytical and molar conductance measurements. All ligands and metal complexes were tested as inhibitors of human leukemia (HL-60) cells growth, and the most potent, the Cu(II) complexes, have been also tested for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities. Structure-activity relationships were carried out.

STRUCTURAL, MORPHOLOGICAL AND MAGNETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF METAL-CHITOSAN/POLY (VINYL AMINE) COMPLEXES
(Springer Nature, 2017) Cocarta, Ana; Gutanu, Vasile; Dragan, Ecaterina
Cu and Ni complexes of chitosan/poly(vinyl amine) (CS/PVAm) composites were prepared. The metal-CS/PVAm complexes were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM-EDX, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and magnetic moment determination. FT-IR spectra of the metal-CS/PVAm complexes showed the characteristic bands of anhidroglucose unit were affected by the metal complexation, and new bands assigned to Me-N and Me-O bonds were observed. SEM images of the surface of metal-composite complexes show the influence of metal ion on the morphology of the complexes, the strong binding of Cu and Ni, involving most of the amino groups, leading to a dense surface structure. The chemical composition on the surface of metal-CS/PVAm complexes was determined from EDX measurements. XRD provided information about the amorphous or crystalline nature of the composite and metal-composite complexes. Using magnetic susceptibility method, the oxidation degree of metal ions from the polymer phase, the homogeneous distribution of the ligand groups from the volume of the CS/PVAm beads, and the existence of the antiferromagnetic interactions between the metal ions were determined.
