This article presents the explanatory theories in the etiology of dental phobia. We analyzed this subject from the perspective of the psychoanalytic theory, from the perspective of the cognitive-behavioural theory, the biological approach and existentialist theory. Every single one of these theories currently is the most relevant for understanding the occurrence of dental phobia.
