In the paper the author presents a synthesis of methodologies for evaluating regional innovation development. Different methodological approaches are applied, at international, European and regional level for the evaluation of innovational development. The author concludes that the creation of a complex indicator for evaluating innovation development for the developing regions of the Republic of Moldova would be a useful tool for elaboration of strategic documents, for establishing performance indicators and for efficient financing of innovation initiatives at regional level.
