This article explores the complex legal framework and implications surrounding war crimes, focusing on their definition, historical evolution, prosecution mechanisms, and contemporary challenges. Through normative and comparative analysis, it examines international treaties, customary law, and the role of institutions such as the International Criminal Court. The study highlights both the legal progress and the political obstacles that affect the enforcement of international humanitarian law. Case studies and jurisprudential examples are used to illustrate recurring patterns and evolving interpretations. Ultimately, the paper underlines the importance of accountability, victim protection, and universal jurisdiction in the fight against impunity for war crimes.en
