dc.description.abstractThe application of torture, inhuman and degrading treatment represents a major violation of human rights. However, the presence of vicious practices and violations is found practically in all states of the world, which determined the world community to implement the eradication of torture approach focused on two basic pillars: 1. Combating of torture; 2. Prevention of torture. The Republic of Moldova ratified the main human rights treaties (UDHR, ECHR, UNCAT, OPCAT, etc.) However, the ECtHR in the period 1997-2022 found 171 violations of art.3, which accounts for 23.4% of all violations found by the court in cases against the Republic of Moldova. This study represents an analysis of the preventive approach, of the architecture of the bodies for the prevention of torture mechanism, the examination of the specificity of the activity of the national mechanism for the prevention of torture through the prism of universal and regional standards.en
