Abstract
The history of Moldova at the end of the 14th century and the beginning of the 15th century is still shrouded in mystery, which is why the careful growth of the existing historical sources remains a priority for historians. One of these sources is the List of Russian cities, distant and close, compiled according to the latest research of Russian specialists, from the years 1375-1381 and which provides us with unique information about the spread of political authority of Moldovan gentlemen on the left bank of the Dniester. The source clearly states that on the left bank of the Dniester, not far from the shores of the Black Sea, during the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, there was a fortress / castle / town, Chern, which once, at the end of the fourteenth century and perhaps at the beginning of the 15th century was part of the Country of Moldova. At the beginning of the third decade of the 15th century, the territory was already controlled by the Polish authorities.
