Abstract

Waste management is one of the most severe problems faced by the Republic of Moldova. This issue causes considerable damage both to ecosystems as a whole and to health, including people's lives. In order to solve this problem, the State has created a complex legal system of sanctions, which, depending on the degree of pollution, applies to both legal entities and individuals for the incorrect management of waste and chemical substances. Thus, in the condition where natural and legal persons violate the legislation regarding the waste regime and considerable damage is caused to the environment, the penalties of the Criminal Code will be applied, as the harshest punishment set up by the law. In this context, we note that the Republic of Moldova joined the consortium formed by 19 countries within the project "Information and Investigation Protocol on Environmental Crimes Based on Multiple Data Sources", which aims to create and implement the protocol for the effective investigation of environmental crimes (waste management), capitalizing on the integration of innovative monitoring and analysis technologies.
