Abstract
Television is the most widely used medium in most countries of the world, being ahead of radio and written press. Due to its multifarious accessibility, it had a strong and rapid spread and development. Television is an effective channel due to the type of messages it uses: audio-visual messages, in particular, have a special persuasive force related to the suggestive power of image, colour and motion (involving several types of analysers, a more complete and complex perception). It is quite easy to assimilate them, because they don’t require much intellectual effort. This light as similation is further enhanced by the fact that television is a non- selective mass medium par excellence: people have little control over the content of TV programmes; they often watch TV without wondering what kind of imagesrun in front of their eyes). It is also a non-selective medium in terms of time: people watch TV between certain hours when they are available for it, and only seldom they watch certain consciously selected programmes. This study is focused on the research of the influence of the television media channel on the process of perception of social reality, mainly of violence by minor detainees and civil society. The issue is approached from the point of view of the cultivation theory. For the testing and verification of the basic hypotheses, the method of invoked multivariate experiment was used, involving two quantitative methods of data collection, the questionnaire - based survey and the psychometric method represented by a personality inventory. The experimental lot consisted of a total of 86 subjects, differentiated accrding to several criteria: socio- legal status (minor detainees and civil society), professional status (with/withoutdegree) and socioeconomic status (low and high). The research was performed between 2018 and 2019.
